What is the difference between an EMBA and a Traditional MBA?
An Executive MBA program differs from other kinds of MBA programs in the following ways: Executive MBA program requires that successful applicants have at least five years of professional work experience. EMBA students continue to work while they study; they are also generally more experienced. EMBA students at UA enter as a group (or cohort) and remain with the same class throughout the course of the program.
The UA EMBA is a general management degree program. This lock-step program is taught in an accelerated pace. Students must have a minimum of five years of work experience. The full-time M.B.A. degree offered by the UA Manderson Graduate School of Business is a two-year program that offers a variety of concentrations.
When do classes begin?
HEMBA Orientation is in August 2020 and classes begin in September 2020.
TEMBA Orientation is December 2020 and classes begin January 2021.
When is the deadline to apply?
HEMBA: July 6, 2020
TEMBA: October 19, 2020
When do classes meet?
HEMBA is a blended program with online instruction and classes that meet one weekend a month on Friday and Saturday.
TEMBA classes generally met every other week on Friday and Saturday for the majority of the program – 1st, 3rd and 4th semesters. The 2nd semester (Summer) follows a blended format of online instruction and in-class meetings just once each month.
What is the length of the program?
HEMBA program: 21 months, 5 semesters
TEMBA program: 17 months, 4 semesters
What are the requirements for the EMBA program?
- Minimum of five years of work experience
- Undergraduate degree from an accredited institution. Prefer applicants with GPA of 3.0 or higher.
- For applicants not meeting the GPA requirement, a GMAT (500 minimum), GRE (300 minimum), or Executive Assessment (50th percentile minimum) may be required.
What is the cost of tuition? (Students enrolling in fall 2020 and spring 2021)
Current cost (billed tuition) is $60,000.00.
Optional EMBA Study Trip Cost typical range is $4,000.00 -$5,000.00. (Paid in two payments during program.)
What does the tuition include?
- Course content and materials, instruction, and faculty
- Some reading materials (free library resources available to all UA students)
- Career counseling & workshops
- Special program enhancements – for example: outside speakers, leadership workshop
Where are classes held?
The Tuscaloosa EMBA classes are held in the Bryant Conference Center at The University of Alabama. The Huntsville EMBA classes are held in the College of Business Administration Building at UAHuntsville. All EMBA students have easy access to a wide array of student services including career services, library resources, technical support plus many other cultural and academic resources of the university.
Can I attend a class before applying to the program?
EMBA Preview Days, Class Previews, as well as Sample Class Sessions, are held various times throughout the year in Tuscaloosa and in Huntsville for prospective students to try out a class. RSVP for an upcoming event date.
What degree does the student earn?
The University of Alabama awards the same M.B.A. degree as the traditional full-time program, with a similar rigorous curriculum, and taught by the same world-class faculty. The degree is an M.B.A. degree.
Is Financial Aid available? Do you offer any scholarships?
Financial aid is available through federal and private educational loans. What is the International Study Trip all about?
The international trip integrates many of the concepts participants have studied across a wide range of disciplines; providing a comprehensive understanding of economic, political and cultural issues in a particular country. The eight to ten-day study trip includes company visits and meetings with local business leaders and government officials. The EMBA Class of 2020 visited Cambodia and South Korea during their international study trip.
Do you accept transfer credits?
The UA EMBA Program evaluates all prior academic course credits for each applicant during the application process. Course credits are subject to faculty and Graduate School review and must have been earned within the six years (18 spring, summer, fall semesters) prior to graduating from UA’s EMBA program. Do I have to take the GMAT or GRE before I apply?
Applicants with five or more years of work experience or those who already have a master’s degree will not be required to take either the GMAT or GRE exam, as long as their GPA is 3.0 or better. For applicants with a GPA below 3.0 to be considered for acceptance, we may request a minimum score of 500 on the GMAT, 300 on the GRE or score at least in the 50th percentile on the Executive Assessment.
