What is the difference between an EMBA and a Traditional MBA?
An Executive MBA program differs from other kinds of MBA programs in the following ways: EMBA students continue to work while they study; they are also generally more experienced. EMBA students at UA generally enter as a group (or cohort) and remain with the same group throughout the program.
The UA EMBA results in a general business managament master’s degree. This lock-step program is taught in an accelerated pace. Students must have a minimum of five years of work experience. The full-time MBA degree offered by the UA Manderson Graduate School of Business is a two-year program that offers several focused areas of study.
When do classes begin?
HUNTSVILLE EMBA Orientation is in August 2020 and first class sessions are in September 2020.
TUSCALOOSA EMBA Orientation is in December 2020 and first class sessions are in January 2021.
When is the deadline to apply?

When do classes meet?
Both HEMBA and TEMBA offer a blended-instruction format with online instruction and content and in-person class sessions that meet one weekend per month on Friday and Saturday for 17 months.
What is the length of the program?
HEMBA program: 17 months, 4 semesters (Fall, Spring, Summer, Fall)
TEMBA program: 17 months, 4 semesters (Spring, Summer, Fall, Spring)
What are the requirements for the EMBA program?
- Minimum of five years of work experience
- Undergraduate degree from an accredited institution. Prefer applicants with GPA of 3.0 or higher.
- For applicants not meeting the GPA requirement, a GMAT score (500 minimum), GRE score (300 minimum), or a score in the 50th percentile on the Executive Assessment may be requested.
What is the cost of tuition? (Students enrolling in fall 2020 and spring 2021)
Current cost (billed tuition) is $55,973.00.
Optional EMBA Study Trip Cost typical range is $4,000.00 -$5,000.00. (Paid in two payments during program.)
What does the tuition include?
- Course content and materials, instruction, and faculty
- Some reading materials (free library resources available to all UA students)
- Career counseling & workshops
- Special program enhancements – for example: outside speakers, leadership workshop
Where are classes held?
The Tuscaloosa EMBA classes are held in The Bryant Conference Center at The University of Alabama. The Huntsville EMBA classes are held in the College of Business Administration Building at UAHuntsville. All EMBA students have easy access to a wide array of student services including career services, library resources, technical support plus many other cultural and academic resources of the university.
Can I attend a class before applying to the program?
EMBA Preview Days, Class Previews, as well as Sample Class Sessions, are held various times throughout the year in Tuscaloosa and in Huntsville for prospective students to try out a class. RSVP for an upcoming event date.
What degree does the student earn?
The University of Alabama awards the same MBA degree as the traditional full-time program, with a similar rigorous curriculum and taught by the same world-class faculty. The degree is an MBA degree.
Is Financial Aid available? Do you offer any scholarships?
Financial aid is available through federal and private educational loans. What is the International Study Trip all about?
The international study trip integrates many of the concepts participants have studied across a wide range of disciplines; providing a comprehensive understanding of economic, political, and cultural issues in a particular country/region. The eight to ten-day study trip includes company visits and meetings with local business leaders and government officials. The EMBA Class of 2020 visited Cambodia and South Korea during their international study trip.
Do you accept transfer credits?
The UA EMBA Program evaluates all prior academic course credits for each applicant during the application process. Course credits are subject to faculty and Graduate School review and must have been earned within the six years (18 spring, summer, fall semesters) prior to graduating from UA’s EMBA program. Student must also have earned a course grade of “B” for better for the course(s) requesting to be accepted for transfer credit. Do I have to take the GMAT or GRE before I apply?
Applicants with five or more years of work experience or those who already have a master’s degree will not be required to take either the GMAT or GRE exam, as long as their GPA is 3.0 or better. For applicants with a GPA below 3.0 to be considered for acceptance, we may request a minimum score of 500 on the GMAT, 300 on the GRE, or a score in the 50th percentile on the Executive Assessment.
