Curriculum

16 Courses – 3 Credit Hours – 48 Hour Program – 17 Months

The UA Executive MBA boasts a relevant curriculum, a distinguished faculty, and an incomparable return on investment (ROI) offered in a blended format of online instruction and once a month in-person class sessions. Our program is ideal with candidates with heavy travel schedules or who live outside of the state by allowing them to pursue their degree without interrupting their current personal and professional responsibilities. Executive MBA graduates and students are able to more effectively recognize and leverage opportunities, increase strategic thinking, improve negotiating, data analysis, financial and accounting skills, and grow networks. The UA EMBA provides a competitive edge that empowers students and enhances companies’ bottom lines.

Classes are held in a blended format with a combination of online instruction and face-to-face class meetings held one weekend per month on The University of Alabama campus for 17 months (4 semesters). Orientation and classes begin in January with an application deadline of October.

International Trip

Students join together for a required international study abroad trip as a part of the program. This trip develops further understanding of global economies, businesses, and cultures through company visits and meetings with business and government leaders, touring significant cultural and historical sites as well as working on an international corporate consulting project.

The trip delivers a once-in-a-lifetime experience that expands global awareness. Past international trips visited to the following cities: San Jose, Phnom Penh, Seoul, Cape Town, Gaborone, Saigon, Singapore, Marrakesh, Casablanca, Madrid, Barcelona, Istanbul, Panama City, Sao Paulo, Lima, Berlin, Beijing, Amsterdam, Brussels, Buenos Aires, Santiago, Bogota, Vienna, Stuttgart, Munich, Prague, Budapest, Dublin, Waterford, Galway, and Limerick.

Our team-intensive EMBA curriculum provides a thorough education in business skills, theories, and practices with focused areas of study in financials, strategy, global initiatives, and leadership. Our strategic boardroom approach to learning uses case studies, simulations and encourages open debate, discussion, and in-depth projects and presentations. This teaches our professional students to make decisions in the face of conflicting data, complex policies, and intense time and fiscal pressures.

Students work in study teams while in the program, and coursework is a mixture of individual and team assignments. Cases, projects, simulations, presentations, and written assignments are typical class assignments. Teams generally choose to meet each week face-to-face, via conference call, or online. Blackboard, an online learning management system integrated into the curriculum, allows students to interact with classmates and faculty and serves as an online data repository for course materials.

To provide additional insights on business issues, the faculty may also invite guest speakers into the classroom or set up company visits.

Career Outcomes

An Executive Career Plan begins during your initial personal interview and continues through graduation. Career planning sessions, in both workshops and private sessions, are available throughout the program. Students also build professional networks among their classmates and EMBA alumni, expanding valuable new resources, including potential clients, investors, suppliers, and career opportunities.
